Cassà in family

Cassà is a perfect place for the whole family to discover, from the youngest to the oldest. For the children, they will enjoy themselves in the village and its surroundings and have fun while they discover and learn about the nature all around us, the region, the village, and its people. We suggest a series of activities, tours and itineraries for the young and not-so-young members of the family to enjoy.

Routes and itineraries

Whether you come to Cassà along the greenway or by car, or even if you're from Cassà and don't know what to do on a weekend morning, you can take your bike or put on your trainers and set off on one of the routes from Cassà we suggest.

In particular, there are two recommended routes for children ideal for discovering the region:

The Loop trail over the Cassà flatlands [link to route] is an easy, level route that will guide you along the plateau of Cassà. The route follows the Southern Gironès Plain Greenway and traces the Verneda and Gotarra creeks. It traverses a landscape of crop fields and forests of great beauty, with old farmhouses and panoramic views. What's more, it is an ideal place to discover nature, especially to see - and hear - the multitude of bird species that populate this area.

The Can Vilallonga Water Route will take you to the Can Vilallonga public estate. The farm, managed by the Consortium of the Gavarres, consists of a farmhouse, meadows where goats and sheep graze, crop fields, and above all a water works consisting of a pond, several locks and up to three aqueducts from the modern era. It is a very pleasant and easy walk surrounded by trees, water and fields, with a picnic area. You can extend the excursion deeper into the Gavarres or to the Capçana lock. The route starts and ends at the Can Vilallonga farmhouse. It can be accessed by car, but we also recommend that you go there on foot or by bicycle from the village following the routes offered by the municipality.

Peeling of the cork tree

An ideal way to discover one of the most distinctive features of Cassà and at the same time spend a different kind of morning with the family is to take part in the activity "From the tree to the cork, from the cork to the table", which takes place on June and July weekends, the only time of the year when you are allowed peel a cork tree.

You will be able to experience a live cork peeling at the Can Vilallonga estate located in the Gavarres massif and have breakfast in the wood. Then you can take part in a guided tour of the cork town of Cassà and a wine tasting of DO Empordà, for the older members of the family. A unique experience that will appeal to the whole family and should not be missed. More information here.

Tours of the Tren Petit

Another activity that will please both children and adults is a tour of the locomotive and train cars of the so-called Tren Petit (Little Train) or Carrilet. This train once connected Girona and Sant Feliu de Guíxols until it was closed in 1969 and was one of the distinctive features of Cassà and the other towns where it stopped. A locomotive, car and a brake van are preserved in Cassà, which can be visited the first Sunday of the month.

Pool and pump track

To end a summer morning and cool off after one of the routes or activities we propose, Cassà opens its outdoor pool during the months of June, July and August. With shaded areas and bar service, it makes for the ideal place for the little ones to have fun while the adults relax.

In addition, next to the pool there is a pump track where children, teenagers and adults can put themselves to the test. It is a closed circuit for all types of non-motorised vehicles (bicycles, scooters, inline skates, etc.) with different routes, curves and slopes, ideal for non-competitive sports.
